Locally Supported Missions

Carroll County Detention Center Chaplaincy

Good News Jail and Prison Ministries provide spiritually mature, equipped, and motivated Christian chaplains to serve in correctional facilities nationally and internationally. Their purpose is to meet the spiritual needs of both inmates and staff through ministry that includes evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral attention. We support the chaplain assigned to the Carroll County Detention Center. Visit us on the web at www.goodnewsjail.org

Carroll County Food Sunday

Carroll County Food Sunday is our local food bank serving residents of Carroll County. CCFS distributes a weekly, nutritionally balanced grocery package that is predicated on household size and is meant to last 3-4 days. It includes meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, breads and milk. Over 400 families a week are served at their Westminster, Eldersburg and Taneytown locations. Our church has designated the fourth Sunday of each month as Food Sunday at WUMC. Donations of canned and dry foods, as well as monetary donations, are received. Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes is the community-wide soup kitchen program, providing nourishing and free noontime meals. The Monday meals are served in our social hall by our volunteers. (Friday meals, served by various churches in conjunction with The Shepherd’s Staff, are also served at our church.)

Prison Fellowship

Westminster UMC has been reaching out with the gospel of Jesus Christ to incarcerated men at the Carroll County Detention Center over the past 15+ years.  A group of our men join Christians of various traditions under the umbrella of "Prison Fellowship" to bring three-night seminars twice per year to those locked up and forgotten by most of our world.  If you are interested in being a part of what God is doing through this ministry, contact Woodie Wood at 410-857-4717 or delmasw@gmail.com.

The Shepherd’s Staff

The Shepherd’s Staff, located on Carroll Street in Westminster, is a Christian outreach and support center, serving the needy in our community in many ways. They assist with clothing for all ages and for job interviews; assistance with security deposits, rent and utility bills, as well as other financial needs; emergency shelter; school supplies; Friday soup kitchens, the annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner; baby formula and supplies; household basics; health care needs, etc. They also provide back-to-school supplies and clothing in August each year, and Easter baskets annually. Personal and financial counseling are also available. Visit us online at www.shepstaff.org

Founded in 1969, this non-profit outreach ministry is located on a 29-acre farm in Westminster. The mission is committed to helping men with drug and/or alcohol abuse problems. Their primary mission is a six-month residential recovery program that prepared men for independent, responsible living. They also have a 10-week halfway program and they operate a three-day emergency shelter.  There is no charge to residents and they accept no government funding. Visit us online at www.westminsterrescue.homestead.com
