Youth Ministries

Youth ministry is a large part of what we do here at WUMC. Our dedication to youth was reflected when, in 2005, we purchased the property at 155 E. Main Street. The building underwent a total renovation and became our youth center, known as The Bait Shop at Shipley’s Crossing.

All students in grades 6-12 are welcomed to participate in youth gatherings and events. “Membership” at WUMC is not required. For trips, a current Information and Medical Release Form is required to be on file.

HIGH TIDE, for middle and senior high school students, meets in The Bait Shop on Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. All youth are invited. Grow closer to God, spend time with friends, participate in service to others, and have fun! Twice a month there is youth-led praise and worship music.

COUNCIL of YOUTH MINISTRIES
This youth-led council coordinates youth participation in the life of the church. All youth are invited to participate on the council. They meet in The Bait Shop at 6 PM on the first Sunday of each month. 

JESUS FREAKS is for all middle and high-school youth who are interested in developing worship experiences using drama, art, technology, music, poetry and other creative arts.

THE A FACTORY is held in The Bait Shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school for middle high youth. Transportation from East Middle School and West Middle Schools is available. Students should be picked up 4:30 PM. The A Factory is a place to do homework, use the computer lab, and improve academic achievement at school. In addition to studying, we have persons available to help with homework and special projects, followed by fun games and fellowship. ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH AT WUMC

SUNDAY SCHOOL - Separate classes for middle high and senior high youth are held at 10:00 on Sunday mornings. Each student needs a completed Sunday School Registration form.

MUSIC - Alive & Ringing (handbell choir) and Hope for the Future (vocal choir) are for youth in grades 6-12. 

30-HOUR FAMINE raises awareness and money to help the hungry worldwide.

YOUTH SUNDAY - Our youth plan and lead worship once a year.

ROCK is an exciting Christian weekend retreat in which youth in grades 6-12 from the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church will gather at the Ocean City Convention Center. The purpose of the retreat is to "ROCK" the lives of our youth and help them into a new or deeper faith and personal relationship with the ROCK of our Salvation, Jesus Christ.

5th GRADE DANCES - Our youth sponsor the community-wide dances for 5th graders.
